We all want to change the world. Fiction can help.
A good story entertains, takes me out of my head, gives me a break from reality, relaxes me.A great story also helps me to appreciate different perspectives, to think about the world, and to discover strategies for contributing to change. Ideally it leaves me with that glimmer of hope that I need in order to take action. These are the stories I want to read and write.

Kindness & Chaos
A Kitchen Store Mystery
Coming soon

In the days following the 2016 presidential election, kitchen store manager Meri Goldsmith stays grounded by resolving the small problems that crop up in her meticulously maintained customer service files. The kind of problems she can control. That strategy works for her until the store manager, Rowdy Jones, decides a Sikh customer is “suspicious,” chases the customer from the store, and doesn’t come back. Rowdy’s disappearance garners national news coverage and ignites rumors that he was kidnapped by Muslim terrorists.
When Rowdy returns, telling swashbuckling tales of his escape from terrorists and basking in internet fame, chaos comes with him. Thefts are uncovered. There's a murder. The customer service files are decimated. Clearly, at least to Meri, Rowdy is at the center of the turmoil, but the boys' club in the c-suite has his back. To restore hope (and get her files back in order), Meri will need to stop trying to solve the world on her own and get help from her diverse friends and colleagues.

Antifa Lit Journal, Volume 3
Diversity of Tactics
Fascism 101
I'm proud to have my short story, Fascism 101 included in volume three of Antifa Lit Journal, due out June 2, 2026. Don't let the title of the journal scare you. If you think "Antifa" means violence, you may have fallen victim to the propaganda of fascists. To me, the defining feature of fascism is the belief that certain groups of people are less than fully human and that therefore it's okay, perhaps even desirable, to cause them pain. No one group has exclusive ownership of this attitude; therefore, to oppose fascism does not mean opposing a particular group. To me, being antifascist means believing that all people have value and overcoming my obstacles to acting on that belief. That's the idea behind my story, Fascism 101.Each piece in this collection of fiction and poetry has its own perspective. I found each one interesting, deeply thoughtful, and thought provoking. Happy reading, and when you're done, come join the discussion. (I'll post links to chats on this page.)
Publisher description of Antifa Lit Journal, vol 3: Diversity of Tactics:Malcolm X said, "As long as we agree on objectives, we should never fall out with each other just because we believe in different methods or tactics or strategy to reach a common goal." There is a great variety of ideas about resistance demonstrated in the pages you're about to read. Some could be placed on a continuum of violence, that laziest of ways we've been taught to evaluate political resistance in our oversimplified history classes. To be clear, a poem or short story is never telling you, the reader, what action you must take. It's a work of art encouraging you to consider ideas, to weigh your moral obligations in the context of our historical circumstances, and to feel, in your heart and in your bones, the way you respond to concepts. Beyond the reductive spectrum of violence, these artists encourage you to consider how you feel about power relationships and the effects of the exercise of power on the least powerful among us, whether they are the trans person living in your apartment building or the Palestinians being rhetorically sacrificed to genocide at the family Seder. This volume is composed of works united by a shared commitment to combat fascism through art, but it's also a beautiful demonstration of the concept of diversity of tactics to achieve that shared goal.
"Art isn't neutral.
Neither are we."
